Dr. Sharon Merims

Senior Physician Dermato-Oncology 
  • Dr. Sharon Merims is engaged in  developing a novel approach for treating skin toxicities caused by targeted therapies (e.g. EGFR inhibitors) at the Hadassah Cancer Research Institute, and is also the Head of the Dermato-oncology clinic at the Sharett institute of Oncology, where she treats patients with a wide range of skin tumors including melanoma, skin lymphoma and non-melanoma skin cancers (e.g cSCC, BCC, kaposi sarcoma).
  • Since early in her career, Dr. Merims has been actively promoting collaboration between physicians and researchers, spending a year doing basic research under the supervision of Prof Ofer Mandelboim at the Lautenberg Center for General and Tumor Immunology, at the Hebrew University. Returning to Hadassah in 2003 to head the Dermato-oncology Clinic in the Sharett Institute, she engaged in clinical trials with cellular vaccines for malignant melanoma patients, in addition to treating cancer patients.
  • Between 2006-2009, Dr. Merims was a post-doc fellow at the Immunology dept at the University Health Network, Toronto, Ontario Canada, where she led two projects: the Human Translational Project of Adoptive T cell Immunotherapy for Acute Myeloid Leukemia patients using ex vivo expanded double negative T Cells and a study of a rare subtype of gdT cells and developed a method to expand these unique cells. She earned an MD from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem and was a Dermatology Resident at the Hadassah Medical Center.
